FROM JUNGLE HUT WITH LOVE

I currently live in Thailand, in a tropical hut, in the jungle, in the middle of the green island of Phuket. This hut is the best thing that has happened to me here in Thailand. Those who follow me on Instagram already know my troubles with Thailand. So to stay in one place for a longer time - it's really a blessing.

In this jungle hut I feel like Tarzan (maybe Jane), who spends his days surrounded by the green leaves of the jungle, listening to the sounds of birds and sharing his hut with other jungle inhabitants - geckos, ants, mosquitoes and flying worms. The geckos are the absolute masters of this house - they crawl on the walls and rustle in my bags, look me in the eyes and inspire me to draw them. Sometimes they act nasty, pooping on my work while I draw.

Here I finally started working on a new series of works inspired by Thailand. How I longed for painting! When it's so hot outside in the middle of the day that all you want to do is sit still in the shade by the fan and draw. Because with every little effort, sweat pours down your face.

As befits a true Tarzan, the benefits of civilization do not reach here and this house has no air conditioning. But there is a mosquito net. I also have a rusty pot and a crooked frying pan. These are the royal jungles. Tarzan is happy.

The most beautiful part of the day is the morning. Shortly before sunrise, the sky turns orange-yellow. I lie in my creaky bed and look out the open door every morning at the indescribably beautiful sky and listen to the sounds of morning jungle life. Around sunrise, I get up and sit on the terrace, and just watch the orange sun slowly rising behind the green banana leaves. How I love this slow southern life. When you are in peace and quiet for a long time, creativity comes to life and says “hey it’s a party, I have a million ideas!”

Every morning I have fruit for breakfast - sweet mangoes, dragon fruits, papayas and pineapples.
And this simple and beautiful life of mine on the island in Thailand inspired me to paint and create a collection of tropical works.

My bright colors have been joined by black here. I have never used black so much in my works! But black brings out the bright tones. Black is like Thailand. Black, hot, hard, dense, strong and primal. Black as a tropical night, black as a tired traveler's soul, black as the body and gaze of southern people, black as gratitude that after a difficult dark night a bright sun always rises.

And that's why I like to travel. And create art on my travels. Because only by experiencing a different life (and no one ever said it was easy), can you feel the difference. And naturally, the themes that I want to paint come to mind. Because I paint only what I have experienced myself.
