My favorite and most personal large-format painting made on my first solo trip. This is my altarpiece, which will probably remain in my collection forever and will not be sold. A symbol of the beginning of a new path. Before that, I worked as a food photographer and stylist for more than ten years, until I burned out in this profession and dreamed of returning to my roots, to what I did as a child - painting. And I ran away from Latvia to Egypt to start painting and open a new page in my life.
This painting contains all my fears, weakness, strength, courage, inspirations and the breath of the world. All my love to the Arabian world of a thousand and one nights.
This painting was made while I was living alone in a Bedouin hut by the Red Sea, on a sandy street in Dahab, where palm trees sway in the warm wind, the moon rises over the sea, Arabic music plays from passing cars, herds of goats run past in the early hours of the morning, the sound of prayers echoes over the city . Dahab inspired me to paint fluorescent colors, Bedouin moon, pink flowers, blue sky, vanilla dessert-scented flowers, starry nights, Bedouin princesses, camels and Dahab cats.
When traveling to Egypt, I took with me self-primed canvases, which I packed in my suitcase. Arriving in Egypt, the security guard at the airport asked me what it was after looking at the acrylic paints in my suitcase. After realizing, he started laughing and asked if I could paint him?
The canvas of the painting is quite wrinkled after all the experiences on the long road, but I really like these bends, folds and cracks, they remind me of all the beautiful and difficult things that happened to me on this adventure. That's why I have also left those marks unedited in the print to give authenticity and realness.
