Maktoub is an Arabic word meaning “it is written” or “already written”. In Islamic culture, it signifies fate, destiny or that events are predetermined and recorded in a preserved book, reflecting a belief in divine destiny.
My very personal painting, painted in Dahab, in Muhammed’s Bedouin house among the sand and dust under the open sky in the sun and wind together with two Bedouin cats as assistants.
There are things and events that happen to you regardless of whether you plan for them or not. And life in the desert teaches you again and again to trust, believe, hope and simply be.
It seems that two cats are starting to take on a symbolically stable role in my art. This is my second painting, in the creation of which two cats participate. The first painting with two cats was painted a few years ago in Greece.
