My jungle hut in Thailand where I lived and worked, was a great inspiration for my creative work. I spent my days surrounded by tropical palm trees, listening to the sounds of birds and geckos. The days were saturated with tropical heat and humidity, and the best thing to do was to sit on the terrace above the jungle and paint in the wind of the fan.
One of my favourite Thai fruits are sweet mangoes, and my favourite dessert was Mango Sticky Rise, which were the most delicious not in tourist restaurants, but bought from local Thai women. And all good and inspiring things in life need to be painted.
The tropical heat of Thailand has brought more nudity to my works, because it is hot not only for me, but also for the tropical princesses I draw.
My bright colors in Thailand have been joined by black. I have never used black so much in my works. Black brings out the bright tones. Black color is like Thailand. Black, hot, hard, dense, strong and wildly primal. Black like a tropical night, black like the soul of a tired traveler, black like the body and gaze of a southerner, black like gratitude that after a difficult dark night a bright sun always rises.
Every morning I was greeted by a bright sunrise, surrounded by palm trees and tropical flowers, with sweet tropical fruits - mangoes, pitayas, pineapples, bananas and papayas. This wonderful and simple life inspired me to create a collection of artworks of Thai tropical life.
